What are the different types of alarm requirements?

Written by Will Clarkson Webb

There are several types of alarm systems commonly referenced in home insurance policies, each providing a different level of security:

Bells Only Alarm: This type of alarm sounds a loud siren or bell at the property if triggered. It alerts anyone nearby and can deter intruders, but it is not monitored remotely.

Central Station Alarm: Also known as a monitored alarm, this system is connected to a central monitoring station. If triggered, the station is notified and can contact you, the authorities, or a keyholder to respond immediately.

Dual Path Alarm: This is a high-security system that sends signals to the monitoring station via two separate communication methods, typically a phone line and a mobile network or internet connection. This ensures that even if one path fails, the alarm can still alert the monitoring station.
